If you’re a drummer, then you know that drums are one of the most iconic instruments ever invented. These instruments are not just for the music industry, they are also a symbol of humanity.
The drum set has a long and fascinating history. Its evolution is largely due to the influence of musicians.
Dr Temperato’s World Record Breaking Drum Set
It’s not very often that we see a drum set made by a real record-breaker, but this one is! Dr Temperato has built a massive drum kit which is now the largest in the world.
This drum set only had 340 pieces when it was recorded by Guinness in 2011, but over the years, Mr Temperato has meticulously added more and more to his collection. Today, the Lakeville, New York, resident is left with a mind-boggling 813 pieces which he can reach without taking a step!
The kit is a mixture of drums, cymbals, cowbells and other strikable items that are all stored in Mr Temperato’s church. He also uses the drum set to attract attention and spread the word of God in a unique way. He says the drum set requires up to 17 hours of maintenance a week! But this man has a passion for drums that is hard to match. He is also a full time minister at Breath of Worship Church in Lakeville, New York.
813 Pieces And Still Growing!
This massive drum set is not only the largest if the world but it also boasts some serious tech. It contains over 813 components, including a ring of drums and a pair of cymbals – all weighed in at a whopping 220 pounds (see pictures below). Dr Temperato is not a small man; his impressive abomination demands 17 hours of maintenance per week. A good guess is that it cost him an arm and a leg to build. The most impressive part is that it is still in operation a decade on, making it one of the longest standing record breaking machines in the history of mankind.
The History Of The Drum Set
The drum set is a collection of several different types of drums and cymbals that can be used to produce a variety of sounds. The drum set has been around for centuries and evolved as a result of the music styles it was used in.
A modern drum kit is a hybrid of instruments from around the world. Its origins lie in the 1860s, when percussionists began to integrate multiple drums into a single set.
Early sets typically included a snare and bass drum, a tom tom, and various cymbals. They were used for a variety of music styles, including ragtime and jazz.
When rock music took off in the 1960s, drummers started to assemble kits with two bass drums and a rack of percussions. They also introduced electronic drums that could be triggered by soft pads.
Dr Temperato’s Passion
The drum set is a staple in any music band. It can range from a simple 5 piece setup to an incredibly complex one.
Regardless of the size of the kit, it always requires a certain degree of expertise to play it correctly. For this reason, many drummers choose to take drum lessons from a professional.
While drumming isn’t a career for everyone, it can be a great way to express yourself creatively. It’s also a great way to get fit and stay healthy!
